Abstract  Abstract

The portable wireless terminal generates and transmits a beacon signal. The beacon signal includes a sequence of beacon signal bursts, and each beacon signal burst includes one or more beacon symbols. The beacon symbol is transmitted using a radio link resource of the beacon symbol transmission unit at a relatively high transmit power level for user data symbols transmitted from the same wireless terminal, thereby facilitating easy detection by another wireless terminal. do. The beacon symbol of the beacon signal occupies a portion of the total available radio link resources. The beacon signal may convey wireless terminal identification information, and sometimes carry wireless terminal identification information, through the location of the beacon symbol within a portion of the radio link resource reserved for the beacon symbol transmission unit.

Beacon Signal Burst, Beacon Symbol, Beacon Signaling, Beacon Symbol Transmission Unit, Tone Symbol
