Abstract  Abstract

A method of wireless communications by a wireless terminal (102), comprising: setting a timer (502) to monitor radiolocation messages; tune into a non-infrastructure communications band (204) to carry out peer-to-peer communications (504) with one or more other wireless terminals (104); and when the timer expires, tune in (506) to an infrastructure communications band (202) and monitor a radiolocation channel to detect the presence of radiolocation signals from a base station (108); receiving and detecting (312) a beacon signal from the base station (108); use (314) the beacon signal detected for synchronization with the base station; receiving (318) a broadcasting signal transmitted in addition to the beacon signal by the base station (108) and retrieving system information to obtain location information of the non-infrastructure communication band (204); obtain (320) time and / or frequency information for the non-infrastructure communications band (204); and tuning (322) to the frequency location of the non-infrastructure communications band using (324) the time and / or frequency information obtained.
