Abstract  Abstract

A wireless communications method, comprising: receiving (1204), in a wireless terminal (2300), a first signal broadcast in a communications band from a first non-access communications device, on a recurring basis, in which the first signal is a burst of OFDM beacon signals and the wireless terminal (2300) does not receive user data from the first non-access communications device; determine (1206, 1210, 1218), based on the first signal, a transmission time interval and a transmission frequency to transmit a second signal to a second communication device, wherein the second communication device is different from the first device of communications; generate (1222) the second signal as a function of at least one identifier corresponding to the wireless terminal (2300); transmitting (1224) the second signal to the second communication device at the transmission frequency during said transmission time interval; establishing (1228) a peer-to-peer communications session with the second communications device, using timing synchronization information obtained from said first signal, wherein said peer-to-peer communications session is being conducted between said wireless terminal (2300) and the second communications device; and exchange user data with the second communications device.
