PURPOSE: A method and apparatus for performing space frequency block coding in an orthogonal frequency division multiplexing wireless communication system are provided to allow powerful channel estimation under all channel conditions regardless of channel information feedbacks. CONSTITUTION: A transmitter(110) includes a plurality of transmission antennas and a circuit which generates a data stream coded by a primary channel. The circuit generates data by performing SFBC(space frequency block coding) for a data stream which is coded by a primary channel. The circuit applies a precoding matrix to data encoded by SFBC in order to map the data with a transmission antenna. The circuit transmits the mapped data through multiple subcarriers as an OFDM(orthogonal frequency division multiplexing) signal.
