Abstract  Abstract

A procedure for delivering a short message service (SMS) message to a collaborative wireless local area network (UE) device begins by registering the UE with an Internet protocol short message port (IP-SM-GW). A property report is sent from UE to IP-SM-GW, where the property report includes the properties of the UE. An SMS message is sent from a Short Message Service Center (SMSC) to IP-SM-GW. The properties of the UE evaluate using IP-SM-GW to determine whether the UE can receive the SMS message, and the SMS message is delivered to the UE via IP-SM-GW if the UE has the capabilities to receive the SMS message.
