Abstract  Abstract

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To cover control signaling associated with a short message service (SMS) by a proxy function.

SOLUTION: A method for distributing an SMS message to interworking wireless local network user equipment (I-WLAN UE) is started by registering the UE in an Internet protocol short message gateway (IP-SM-GW). A capability report including the capability of the UE is transmitted from the UE to the IP-SM-GW. The SMS message is transmitted from a short message service center (SMSC) to the IP-SM-GW. In the IP-SM-GW the capability of the UE is evaluated to determine whether or not the UE can receive the SMS message. When the UE has capability to receive the SMS message the SMS message is distributed via the IP-SM-GW to the UE.
