PURPOSE: A method and an apparatus for reporting terminal capability which supports an SMS(Short Message Service) are provided to extract an SMS data message from an SS7/MAP(Signaling System 7/Mobile Application Part) format and to originate the extracted message to an I-WLAN(Interworking-Wireless Local Area Network) UE(User Equipment). CONSTITUTION: A UE(602) is registered in an S-CSCF(Serving-Call State Control Function) within a network by using an IMS(Internet Protocol Multimedia Subsystem) registration procedure. The UE transmits capability information which displays SMS message capabilities to the network. The UE receives an SMS message by using an SIP(Session Initiation Protocol) through the S-CSCF.
