A system configured to facilitate short message service (SMS) message exchange between a wireless local area network user equipment (UE) and a short message service center (SMSC) includes a UE, an Internet protocol short message gateway (IP-SM-GW), and an SMSC. do. The UE comprises a capability reporting device, a first message device and a first delivery reporting device in communication with the first message device. The IP-SM-GW includes a proxy device in communication with the capability reporting device and the first messaging device, and a second delivery reporting device in communication with the proxy device and the first delivery reporting device.
