A system arranged to facilitate the exchange of Short Message Service (SMS) messages between a Wireless Local Area Network User Equipment (UE) and a Short Message Service Center (SMSC), comprising: an UE that has: a skill notification device; a first message device; and a first delivery notification device, wherein the first message device communicates with the first delivery notification device; an Internet Protocol Short Message Gateway (IP-SM-GW) comprising: a proxy device, the proxy device communicating with the capability notification device and the first messaging device; and a second delivery notification device, wherein the second delivery notification device communicates with the proxy device and the first delivery notification device; and an SMSC that has: a second message device, the second message device communicating with the proxy device; and a third delivery notification device, wherein the third delivery notification device communicates with the second notification device and the second delivery notification device.
