Abstract  Abstract

The present application discloses methods and apparatus for optimizing random access channel (RACH) transmissions from a wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU) for multiple transmissions. The WTRU may use the configured time resources to initiate uplink transmissions for the random access procedure such that uplink resources may be time shared by multiple WTRUs. The transmission time can be calculated on an absolute or relative basis. A back shift time can be applied before starting the uplink transmission. The back-off time may be WTRU-specific, WTRU-group-specific, or per-access-specific, and may be determined based on an optimal prior-order basis. The zoom factor can be applied to this back shift time. A non-contention allocation method can be used to determine the appropriate resources. Data can be transmitted with or without a preamble. The WTRU may include machine form communication devices and may be grouped according to a number of factors or characteristics.
