Abstract  Abstract

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and apparatus for optimizing Random Access Channel (RACH) transmissions from wireless transmit/receive units (WTRUs) for multiple transmissions.SOLUTION: A method for uplink transmission implemented at a WTRU comprises: determining whether the WTRU has data to transmit in uplink transmission; determining whether the WTRU is a member of a group of WTRUs which are assigned resources for performing uplink transmission; determining a transmission time for the WTRU on the basis of the resources available to the group of WTRUs, wherein the transmission time for each WTRU of the group of WTRUs is spread temporally to mitigate collisions; and performing uplink transmission without transmitting the preamble on the assigned resources on the determined transmission time.
