Abstract  Abstract

A method and apparatus for optimizing random access channel (RACH) transmission from a wireless transmit / receive unit (WTRU) for multiple simultaneous transmissions is disclosed. The WTRU may initiate uplink transmission for a random access procedure using the configured time resource so that uplink resources can be time-shared by multiple WTRUs. The transmission time can be calculated absolute or relative. A back-off time can be applied before starting the uplink transmission. The backoff time may be specific to the WTRU or WTRU group, can be specified for each access class, and can be obtained based on the priority order. A scaling factor can be applied to the backoff time. A contention-free allocation method can be used to determine the appropriate resource. With the preamble, data can be transmitted without the preamble. A WTRU may include MTC devices and may be grouped according to a number of factors or characteristics.
