Abstract  Abstract

A method and apparatus are disclosed for paging a wireless transmit / receive unit (WTRU) in a CELL_PCH state and a URA_PCH state. The WTRU may transmit an indication of enhanced paging channel (PCH) capability to receive the HS-DSCH in the CELL_PCH state and the URA_PCH state, for example in a CELL UPDATE message, URA UPDATE message, or UTRAN MOBILITY INFORMATION CONFIRM message. A drift radio network controller (DRNC) may receive an indication of whether the WTRU has enhanced PCH capability from the serving RNC and page the WTRU based on the indication. The RNC can page the WTRU over both HS-DSCH and secondary common control physical channel (PCH / S-CCPCH) if the WTRU capability is unknown. The WTRU may monitor both HS-DSCH and PCH / S-CCPCH. The WTRU may configure reception on the HS-DSCH based on the capabilities of the SRNC or configuration from the network.
