Abstract  Abstract

Disclosed is a method and apparatus for paging WTRUs (Wireless Transmit / Receive Units) in CELL_PCH and URA_PCH states. The WTRU may display an indication of enhanced PCH (Paging Channel) capability to receive HS-DSCH (High Speed Downlink Shared Channel) in CELL_PCH and URA_PCH states, eg, in a cell update message, URA update message, or UTRAN mobility information confirmation message. Can be sent. A DRNC (Drift Radio Network Controller) can receive an indication from the serving RNC as to whether the WTRU has enhanced PCH capability and can page the WTRU based on the indication. If the WTRU capability is not known, the RNC can page the WTRU both on the HS-DSCH and on the PCH / S-CCPCH (Secondary Common Control Physical Channel). The WTRU can monitor both HS-DSCH and PCH / S-CCPCH. The WTRU may configure reception on the HS-DSCH based on SRNC capabilities or configuration from the network.
