Abstract  Abstract

A method and an apparatus for the user search of a wireless transmission and reception unit, WTRU, in the CELL_PCH and URA_PCH states are disclosed. A WTRU that sends the indication of the extended user search channel (PCH) capacity of receiving a high-speed downlink shared channel (HS-DSCH) in the CELL_PCH and URA_PCH states, for example, in a message from cell update, a URA update message or a UTRAN mobility information confirmation message. A gradual variation radio network controller, DRNC, may receive an indication of whether the WTRU has expanded PCH capability of a service RNC and search for the user WTRU based on the indication. An RNC can search the WTRU on a high-speed downlink shared channel (HS-DSCH) and the user search for the common control channel (PCH) / physical secondary channel (S-CCPCH) if the ability to the WTRU. The WTRU can follow both the HS-DSCH and the PCH / S-CCPCH channel. The WTRU can configure the reception on an HS-DSCH according to the capacity of the SRNC or the network configuration.
