Abstract  Abstract

The present invention relates to a method and system for transmitting and reducing uplink feedback signaling from a wireless transmit / receive unit (WTRU) in connection with multimedia broadcast multicast service (MBMS) data transmission over a high speed downlink packet access (HSDPA) channel. About. Node B may pre-assign a time frequency domain or common channelization code for feedback. The WTRU sends a CQI to the Node B only if the trigger criteria reporting channel quality indicator (CQI) is set and the trigger criteria are met. The trigger criteria may be based on the current operational CQI value of the Node B, or statistics on reception errors of the transfer block, or may be a predetermined time. Feedback reduction methods associated with ACK / NACK include sending an indication of the average number of transmissions that the WTRU needed to successfully decode the data instead of sending an ACK / NACK at every transmission interval.
