Abstract  Abstract

Abstract Title: Physical mapping of ePDCCH to (dis)contiguous physical resource blocks and discontiguous resource elements in resource blocks

LTE (long term evolution) air interface frames include a PDCCH (physical downlink control channel) for signalling. The next generation system LTE-A (LTE advanced) requires more signalling and more flexibility hence the ePDCCH (extended/enhanced PDCCH) which will be mapped to the frame regions typically used for the PDSCH (physical downlink shared channel).

The signalling for one UE (user equipment) can comprise one or more CCEs (control channel element).

The invention proposes mapping the ePDCCH to either contiguous PRBs (physical resource blocks) 402/404 for frequency selectivity for static UEs or distributed PRBs for frequency diversity for mobile UEs 406/408.

The invention proposes that the ePDCCH be mapped to distributed REs (resource elements) within a PRB with no adjacent REs assigned to a REG (RE group) (See Fig. 5).
