Abstract
A wireless terminal can communicate with two radio access networks (RAN) ( 304 306) of different types. The wireless terminal can register simultaneously with a RAN of the first type and a RAN of the second type and can wirelessly connect to a RAN of either the first type or the second type in a connected state. The wireless terminal when registered with both a first RAN and a second RAN and when wirelessly connected to the first RAN in the connected state receives a mobility signal via the first RAN indicating a RAN of the second type and in response to receiving the mobility signal and in response to being so registered with the first RAN and second RAN transmits an access trigger signal (417). The access trigger signal indicates that the wireless terminal is to be connected to the second RAN in the connected state.

Claim
1. A wireless terminal comprising:
a transceiver circuit configured to receive a mobility signal via the first RAN, wherein the mobility signal indicates that the wireless terminal changes from a first RAN(Radio Access Network) in a connected mode to a second RAN; and a processor configured to deactivate an ISR (Idle mode Signaling Reduction) mode before transmitting an access trigger signal in response to the wireless terminal being in the ISR mode and the wireless terminal not having pending uplink data or uplink control signaling, wherein the transceiver circuit is further configured to transmit the access trigger signal for receipt by the second RAN after receiving the mobility signal, wherein the access trigger signal indicates that the wireless terminal is to be connected to the second RAN, wherein the wireless terminal is further configured to be registered with both the first RAN and the second RAN, and wherein the mobility signal is CCO (Cell Change Order).
2. The wireless terminal according to claim 1, wherein the first RAN is E-UTRAN (Evolved Universal Terrestrial Radio Access Network) and the second RAN is GERAN (GSM EDGE Radio Access Network).
3. The wireless terminal according to claim 1, wherein the access trigger signal is a RAU (Routing Area Update) message.
4. The wireless terminal according to claim 1, wherein the uplink control signaling is an uplink request.
5. A method for controlling a wireless terminal, the method comprising:
receiving a mobility signal via a first RAN, wherein the mobility signal indicates that the wireless terminal changes from a first RAN(Radio Access Network) in connected mode to a second RAN; and deactivating an ISR (Idle mode Signaling Reduction) mode before transmitting an access trigger signal in response to the wireless terminal being in the ISR mode and the wireless terminal not having uplink data or request, transmitting the access trigger signal for receipt by the second RAN after receiving the mobility signal, wherein the access trigger signal indicates that the wireless terminal is to be connected to the second RAN, wherein the wireless terminal is further configured to be registered with both the first RAN and the second RAN, and wherein the mobility signal is CCO (Cell Change Order).
6. The method according to claim 5, wherein the first RAN is E-UTRAN (Evolved Universal Terrestrial Radio Access Network) and the second RAN is GERAN (GSM EDGE Radio Access Network).
7. The method according to claim 5, wherein the access trigger signal is a RAU (Routing Area Update) message.
8. The method according to claim 6, wherein the uplink control signaling is an uplink request.
