Abstract  Abstract

The method and apparatus for setting millimeter wave (mmW) link communication all include initial selection of a candidate mmW base station (mB) and configuration of mmW acquisition resources and procedures with the assistance of a cellular network. . Another method is to transmit mmW acquisition beacons, process mmW acquisition beacons to achieve mmW beam alignment and timing synchronization, and report uplink (UL) over a cellular or mmW link. In an example, a mmW wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU) transmits millimeter wave (mmW) WTRU (mmW WTRU) information to a base station via a cellular system, and a candidate mmW base station containing mmW acquisition start timing information ( mB), and calculates correlation values around the received mmW acquisition start timing information for mBs in the candidate list. The mmW WTRU performs sliding window correlation using the signature sequence corresponding to the beam and mB in the candidate list.
