Abstract  Abstract

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method that includes initial selection of candidate mmW base stations (mBs) and configuration of mmW acquisition resources and procedures, both with the assistance of a cellular network, in order to establish millimeter wave (mmW) link communication.SOLUTION: In a method for a millimeter wave (mmW) communication system, mmW acquisition beacons are transmitted, mmW acquisition beacons are processed to achieve mmW beam alignment and timing synchronization, and uplink (UL) reporting is performed via cellular or mmW links. A mmW wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU) transmits mmW WTRU information over a cellular system to a base station, and receives a candidate list of candidate mmW base stations (mB) including mmW acquisition start timing information. The mmW WTRU calculates correlation values around the received mmW acquisition start timing information for the mBs in the candidate list. The mmW WTRU performs sliding window correlations using signature sequences corresponding to mBs and beams in the candidate list.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 3
