Abstract  Abstract

The method and apparatus for setting up millimeter wave (mmW) link communications all include the initial selection of the candidate mmW base station (mB) and the configuration of mmW acquisition resources and procedures, with the assistance of the cellular network . Another method is to transmit the mmW acquisition beacon, process the mmW acquisition beacon to achieve mmW beam alignment and timing synchronization, and make an uplink (UL) report over the cellular or mmW link. In an example, a mmW wireless transmit / receive unit (WTRU) transmits millimeter wave (mmW) WTRU information to a base station via a cellular system, and transmits a candidate mmW base station mB) and calculates correlation values around the received mmW acquisition start timing information for mB in the candidate list. The mmW WTRU performs sliding window correlation using the signature sequence corresponding to the mB and the beam in the candidate list.
