Abstract
Methods and apparatus for millimeter wave (mmW) beam acquisition are disclosed. An apparatus includes a transmitter configured to transmit millimeter wave (mmW) WTRU (mmW WTRU) information over a cellular system to a base station a receiver and a processor. The receiver receives a list of candidate mmW base stations (mB) including mmW acquisition start timing information from the base station, and the processor calculates correlation values around the received mmW acquisition start timing information for the mBs in the list.

Claim
1. A wireless transmit receive unit (WTRU) comprising:
a receiver; a transmitter; and a processor; and the receiver and the processor are configured to communicate with a first eNodeB; the receiver and the processor are further configured to receive information including a start time, time adjustment information, channel resource and modulation and coding information for a second eNodeB; and the transmitter and the processor are further configured to transmit to the second eNodeB based on the received information without using a random access channel.
2. The WTRU of claim 1 wherein the receiver and the processor are further configured to continue to communicate with the first eNodeB and to maintain a connection with the first eNodeB during the transmission to the second eNodeB.
3. The WTRU of claim 1 wherein the first eNodeB is an LTE eNodeB and the second eNodeB is a millimeter wave (mmW) eNodeB.
4. The WTRU of claim 1 wherein the received information is received via radio resource control (RRC) signaling.
5. The WTRU of claim 1 wherein the received information includes beam information.
6. A method for use in a wireless transmit receive unit (WTRU), the method comprising:
communicating with a first eNodeB; receiving information including a start time, time adjustment information, channel resource and modulation and coding information for a second eNodeB; and transmitting to the second eNodeB based on the received information without using a random access channel.
7. The method of claim 6 further comprising continuing to communicate with the first eNodeB and maintaining a connection with the first eNodeB during the transmission to the second eNodeB.
8. The method of claim 6 wherein the first eNodeB is an LTE eNodeB and the second eNodeB is a millimeter wave (mmW) eNodeB.
9. The method of claim 6 wherein the received information is received via radio resource control (RRC) signaling.
10. The method of claim 6 wherein the received information includes beam information.
