Abstract  Abstract

A method and apparatus for controlling connectivity to a network for intermittent data services is disclosed. A new sleep mode is defined to allow a wireless transmit / receive unit (WTRU) to transition from a connected state or idle state to a sleep mode based on a triggering condition. The WTRU transitions from the connected state or idle state to the human mode when the characteristic or priority of the data matches the characteristic or priority for the human mode, and uses a different configuration than the configuration used for the connected state or the idle state. Can be operated. A WTRU in sleep mode may perform a WTRU-controlled mobility procedure. The WTRU in sleep mode may maintain dedicated resources such as cell radio network temporary identity (C-RNTI) for receiving unicast traffic from the network.
