Abstract
A method and apparatus for controlling connectivity to a network for intermittent data services is disclosed. A new dormant mode is defined so that the WTRU (wireless transmit / receive unit) can transition from connected or idle state to dormant mode based on the triggering condition. The WTRU transitions from the connected or idle state to the dormant mode when the data characteristics or priority matches the dormant mode characteristics or priority, and has a different configuration from that used for the connected or idle state. Can operate using. A dormant mode WTRU may perform mobility procedures controlled by the WTRU. A dormant mode WTRU may hold dedicated resources such as C-RNTI (cell radio network temporary identity) for receiving unicast traffic from the network.
