Abstract  Abstract

PURPOSE: A method and system for supporting a developed terrestrial radio access network can allow WTRU (wireless transmit/receive unit) to support E-UTRAN (evolved-universal mobile telecommunication system terrestrial radio access network to use additional E-UTRAN ability and services. CONSTITUTION: A UTRAN BS (base station) generates a first message including an IE (information element) related to an E-UTRAN. The UTRAN BS transmits the first message through the first UTRAN channel to WTRU (250). The WTRU extracts a first IE related to the E-UTRAN from the first message. The WTRU generates a second message indicating E-UTRAN capability information. The E-UTRAN capability information comprises an indication of support for OFDM (orthogonal frequency division multiplex) mode and for handover from a UTRAN to an E-UTRAN.
