Abstract  Abstract

PURPOSE: A method for supporting a evolved-UMTS terrestrial radio access network and a system thereof are provided to support an E-UTRAN(Envolved-UMTS Terrestrial Radio Access Network) so that a WTRU(Wireless Transmit Receive Unit) uses additional E-UTRAN(Evolved-UMTS Terrestrial Radio Access Network) abilities and services. CONSTITUTION: A UTRAN(354) receives a WTRU multi-mode/multi-RAT(Radio Access Technology) capability message(310). The UTRAN transmits a measurement capability message to a WTRU(352)(312). The UTRAN receives the measurement capability message. The WTRU performs the measurement of E-UTRAN signals through E-UTRAN channels indicated on the measurement capability message. The WTRU reports the measurement results to the UTRAN(314). The UTRAN starts handoff to the E-UTRAN based on measurement reports. (Reference numerals) (302) WTRU listens to a broadcasting control channel through a UTRAN; (304) UTRAN transmission, (broadcasting or instruction), list of available radio access technologies; (306) WTRU receives and stores the list; (308) WTRU transmits a multi-RAT capability message to the UTRAN; (310) UTRAN receives the multi-RAT capability message; (312) UTRAN transmits a measurement capability message; (314) WTRU performs a measurement through an E-TRAN channel indicated in the measurement capability message and reports the measurement results
