Abstract  Abstract

PURPOSE: A user equipment for hand-off between a universal wireless local area network and a universal mobile telecommunication system is provided to realize an automatic hand-off process by using user preference. CONSTITUTION: A UMTS(Universal Mobile Telecommunication System) broadcasts available WLAN(Wireless Local Area Network) lists in a cell where a UE(User Equipment) is placed(S1). The UE receives and stores all the available WLAN lists(S2). The UE requests a position of the available WLAN in the cell based on user preference(S3). The UE compares position coordinates according to movement of the available WLAN with stored position coordinates of WLAN(S4). It is judged whether a position of the UE and the position of the WLAN are in a limited range preliminarily set(S5). If so, a hand-off procedure is started(S6).
