Abstract  Abstract

The present invention relates to a user device for providing an automatic handoff process of a user equipment (UE) from a wireless local area network (WLAN) to a universal mobile communication system (UMTS) or from UMTS to a WLAN. Handoff may be initiated by the UE or initiated in accordance with the signal quality based on a comparison of the user preferences, signal quality, the position coordinates of the UE with the position coordinates of the system to be switched. The available channel in one system may be broadcast to the UE by another system or the UE may monitor and lock the channel of the system to be switched. Handoff may be initiated by UMTS and is selected according to the power basis.
