In combination, a subscriber device (UE) that is able to automatically transfer the UE from a first system to a second system, this first system being one of a universal mobile telecommunication system (UMTS) and a wireless local area network (WLAN) ), and the second system is the other of UMTS and WLAN, comprising: this first system, comprising: Means for sending a list of second systems available for communication; this UE, comprising: Means for receiving and storing a list of these second systems available within a cell in which the UE is located; Means for requesting available preferred second systems; Means for requesting the locations of the second systems available in that cell and responsive to the initialization means; Means for providing the coordinates of the UE; Means for comparing the coordinates of the UE with the coordinates of the second systems stored in the UE; and means for initiating a handover operation if the comparison operation reveals that the second system is within a predetermined limit.
