Abstract  Abstract

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and an apparatus for distributing and receiving content.

SOLUTION: A quality function for a content object may be sent to intermediate proxy cache servers and/or a receiver(s). The quality function provides a function relationship between at least two quality metrics of the content object so that a perceivable quality of the content object at a receiver may be estimated based on the quality function. The quality function may be represented by a polynomial series and/or a set of means and standard deviation values. The quality function may be included in media presentation description (MPD) for dynamic adaptive streaming over HTTP (DASH) streaming or a session description protocol (SDP) message for real time streaming protocol (RTSP) streaming or a real time control protocol (RTCP) sender report.
