Abstract
A method and apparatus for distributing and receiving content is disclosed. The quality function of the content object can be sent to the intermediate proxy cache server and / or the receiver (s). The quality function provides a functional relationship between at least two quality criteria of the content object so that the perceptible quality of the content object at the receiver is estimated based on the quality function. The quality function can be represented by a polynomial series and / or a set of mean and standard deviation values. The quality function is a media presentation description (MPD) for DASH (Dynamic Adaptive Streaming over HTTP) streaming, or a Session Description Protocol (SDP) message or RTMP (Real Time Control Protocol) transmitter for RTSP (Real Time Streaming Protocol) streaming. Can be included in the report.
