Abstract  Abstract

Send CQI (Channel Quality Indicator) over shared channel while WTRU is in Cell_FACH (Cell Forward Access Channel) state without having dedicated channel assigned to WTRU (Wireless Transmit / Receive Unit) A method and apparatus for disclosing is disclosed. The WTRU performs a measurement of at least one parameter and generates a CQI based on the measurement. The WTRU then transmits CQI over RACH (Random Access Channel). The CQI can be transmitted using a RACH preamble. The plurality of signature sequences can be divided into a plurality of groups. The WTRU may select one group based on the CQI, and randomly select one signature sequence for transmitting the RACH preamble from among the signature sequences in the selected group. The CQI can be added to the RACH preamble. The CQI can be transmitted by the control part or the data part of the RACH message.
