A method to be used in a wireless transmission / reception unit, WTRU, (102), comprising the method: obtaining the address of a packet data gateway, PDG, (129) using Domain Name Service, DNS; register with a Third Generation Association Project, 3GPP, multimedia IP subsystem, IMS, (150) through a Wireless Local Area Network, WLAN, (130) use Session Initiation Protocol, SIP; request an IP session for a user service from the IMS; receive the user service from the IMS through the WLAN and a tunnel between the PDG and the WTRU; initiate a transfer from the WLAN to a cellular network (110); and carry out the transfer from the WLAN to the cellular network, characterized in that said realization of the transfer includes: maintaining a connection with the WLAN while simultaneously maintaining a connection with the cellular network; and receive user service from the IMS during the transfer.
