A method for interworking between a cellular network and a wireless local area network (WLAN) for a service provided by an IP multimedia subsystem (IMS), a method comprising; establish a connection to the WLAN; establish an IP connection to the IMS through the WLAN; invoke an IP session and receive a service from the IMS through an IP tunnel that is established from the WLAN to the IMS; establish a connection to the cellular network; establish an IP connection to the IMS through the cellular network; and carry out a transfer from the WLAN to the cellular network, where the service is continuously received from the IMS through the cellular network after the transfer. A wireless transmission / reception unit (WTRU) is also disclosed for interworking between a cellular network and a wireless local area network (WLAN) for a service provided by an IP multimedia subsystem (IMS) that employs the method.
