Abstract
Physical layer processing and procedures for device-to-device (D2D) discovery signal generation and transmission and scheduling of D2D discovery signals are described. Detection and measurement of a D2D discovery signal, D2D signal identity management, and monitoring by a wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU) of PDCCH for D2D discovery scheduling is described, as is a WTRU that may be configured with a D2D-specific transmission/reception opportunity pattern. The discovery signal may carry a payload for explicit information about user and/or service identity, and may be mapped to physical resources in such a way as to decouple transmission/reception of the discovery signal from downlink operations. A WTRU may measure a D2D discovery signal quality and report to the network.

Claim
1. A method associated with device to device (D2D) signaling by a wireless transmit/receive device (WTRU), comprising:
determining a discovery signal schedule indicating allowed subframes to transmit a D2D discovery signal; determining a scrambling sequence; determining to transmit the D2D discovery signal on one or more of the allowed subframes; and transmitting the D2D discovery signal using the scrambling sequence, wherein the D2D discovery signal comprises a payload and a reference symbol.
2. The method of claim 1, wherein determining the discovery signal schedule comprises receiving a SIB from a network and determining the discovery signal schedule based on the SIB.
3. The method of claim 1, wherein determining the discovery signal schedule comprises deriving the discovery signal schedule based on a D-RNTI associated with the WTRU.
4. The method of claim 1, wherein determining to transmit the D2D discovery signal comprises:
determining a transmission schedule associated with a priority channel; comparing the discovery signal schedule to the transmission schedule associated with the priority channel; and determining that the discovery signal schedule does not interfere with the transmission schedule associated with the priority channel.
5. The method of claim 4, wherein the priority channel is a Physical Uplink Shared Channel (PUSCH) or a Physical Uplink Control Channel (PUCCH) with ACK/NACK traffic.
6. The method of claim 1, wherein a slot of the D2D discovery signal is dedicated to one or more reference symbols.
7. The method of claim 1, wherein the D2D discovery signal further comprises a guard.
8. The method of claim 1, wherein the reference symbol is in the payload.
9. The method of claim 1, wherein the scrambling code is non-WTRU specific.
10. The method of claim 1, wherein the WTRU is configured to alternate D2D regions when transmitting the discovery signal.
11. The method of claim 1, wherein the WTRU is configured to alternate D2D regions when transmitting the discovery signal using a pre-determined hopping sequence or on a random selection.
12. A wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU), configured at least in part to:
determine a transmission schedule for a discovery signal on an uplink (UL) frequency; and transmit the discovery signal according to the determined schedule; wherein the discovery signal comprises a guard signal part and a payload signal part.
13. A wireless transmit/receive device (WTRU) for use in device to device (D2D) signaling, configured at least in part to:
determine a discovery signal schedule indicating allowed subframes to transmit a D2D discovery signal; determine a scrambling sequence; determine to transmit the D2D discovery signal on one or more of the allowed subframes; and transmit the D2D discovery signal using the scrambling sequence, wherein the D2D discovery signal comprises a payload and a reference symbol.
14. The WTRU of claim 13, wherein the device is configured at least in part to receive a SIB from a network and determine the discovery signal schedule based on the SIB.
15. The WTRU of claim 13, wherein the device is configured at least in part to derive the discovery signal schedule based on a D-RNTI associated with the WTRU.
16. The WTRU of claim 13, wherein the device is configured at least in part to:
determine a transmission schedule associated with a priority channel; compare the discovery signal schedule to the transmission schedule associated with the priority channel; and determine a discovery signal schedule that does not interfere with the transmission schedule associated with the priority channel.
17. The WTRU of claim 16, wherein the priority channel detected by the WTRU is a Physical Uplink Shared Channel (PUSCH) or a Physical Uplink Control Channel (PUCCH) with ACK/NACK traffic.
18. The WTRU of claim 13, wherein the D2D discovery signal further comprises a guard.
19. The WTRU of claim 13, wherein the scrambling code is non-WTRU specific.
20. The WTRU of claim 13, wherein the device is configured at least in part to alternate D2D regions when transmitting the discovery signal.
21. The WTRU of claim 13, wherein the device is configured at least in part to alternate D2D regions when transmitting the discovery signal using a pre-determined hopping sequence or on a random selection.
