Abstract  Abstract

Describes the physical layer processing and procedures for device-to-device (D2D) discovery signal generation, and D2D discovery signal transmission and scheduling. Describes the detection and measurement of D2D discovery signals, the management of D2D signal identification codes, and the monitoring of PDCCH by a wireless transmission / reception unit (WTRU) for D2D discovery scheduling, such as a WTRU that can be configured with D2D specific transmission / reception timing modes. The discovery signal can carry payload for explicit information about the user and / or service identification code and can be mapped to physical resources to decouple the transmission / reception of discovery signals from downlink operations. The WTRU can measure the D2D discovery signal quality and report it to the network.
