Abstract  Abstract

1. A method of transmitting data from a transmitting entity to a receiving entity in a multi-antenna wireless communication system using orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM), comprising processing a data packet to obtain a block of data symbols; demultiplexing pilot symbols and a block of data symbols into multiple subbands to obtain, for a data packet, a plurality of pilot symbol sequences and data for a plurality of subbands; and performing spatial processing on the pilot and data symbol sequences for each subband using at least one control vector selected for the subband, the spatial processing randomizing the plurality of effective channels with one input and one output (SISO) existing for the plurality of sequences pilot symbols and data transmitted in multiple subbands. 2. The method of claim 1, wherein the sequences of pilot and data symbols for each subband are spatially processed using one control vector selected for the subband. The method of claim 2, wherein a plurality of different steering vectors are used for a plurality of subbands. The method of claim 2, wherein one control vector used for spatial processing for each subband is not known to the receiving entity. The method of claim 1, wherein the sequences of pilot and data symbols for each subband are spatially processed using at least two control vectors selected
