Disclosed is a method for switching from multimedia broadcast multicast services (MBMS) downloading of content in dynamic adaptive streaming over HTTP (DASH) format to hypertext transfer protocol (HTTP) delivery in an internet protocol (IMS) The method includes receiving a session initiation protocol (SIP) re-invite from a mobile device during a content delivery session while the mobile device receives an MBMS download that includes content in a DASH format, wherein the service control function module . The SCF module may include sending a SIP invitation to the HTTP / SIP adapter to select an HTTP server for HTTP-based delivery. The SCF module may receive a SIP acknowledgment indicating the selection of the HTTP server for the content delivery session from the HTTP / SIP adapter. The SCF module may forward the SIP acknowledgment to the mobile device indicating the conversion to the HTTP server for the content delivery session.
