Abstract  Abstract

The present invention relates to a method and apparatus for transmitting signaling in a multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) communication system using orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM).

In particular the method comprises the steps of selecting one signaling value among a plurality of signaling values; Selecting one set of pilot symbols from a set of multiple pilot symbols, wherein each of the plurality of sets of pilot symbols corresponds to a value of one of the plurality of signaling values, the set of selected pilot symbols Corresponds to the selected signaling value; And multiplexing the selected set of pilot symbols into a set of first frequency subbands used for carrier pilot, wherein the plurality of signaling values are transmitted over a set of second frequency subbands. A signaling value indicating the presence or absence of one or more additional pilot symbols for deriving a response estimate.
