Abstract  Abstract

A method, applied by an evolved NodeB (102), eNodeB, for controlling congestion in a network, said method comprising: determining that a congestion situation exists in the network; and transmitting a suspension notification to a user equipment (111), UE, the UE being in the RRC CONNECTED state (connected) to the eNodeB, to notify the UE that a radio carrier, RB, operating in the network will be suspended, after having determined that the congestion situation exists; wherein the notification of suspension is transmitted in a message (201) Suspend Radio Bearer (suspend radio carrier) radio control resource, RRC, which includes a back-off timer (containment) to indicate the time to wait for the UE before requesting resources on the corresponding RB, and where a discard timer of the data packet convergence protocol, PDCP, has been modified, according to the value of the back-off timer.
