Abstract  Abstract

A user equipment (110, 120, 300a, 300b) configured to communicate with an evolved universal terrestrial radio access network, eUTRAN (110), the user equipment (110, 120, 300a, 300b) comprising: a transceiver (302); and a processor coupled to the transceiver (302), the processor configured to: determine that a radio link with the eUTRAN (110) has a quality below a predetermined threshold; determine a current speed of the user equipment (110, 120, 300a, 300b); set a timer T310 (314); initiate timer T310 (314) in response to determining that the radio link with the eUTRAN has quality below a predetermined threshold; and declare a radio link failure when timer T310 (314) expires; wherein the processor is also configured to: receive a unicast message from the eUTRAN (110), the message comprising parameters for the T310 timer (314) and which indicates which parameters to use for different speeds of the user equipment; set the timer T310 (314) with the parameters for the current speed of the user equipment (110, 120, 300a, 300b) included in said unicast message; wherein the parameters for timer T310 (314) include a scale factor and where timer T310 (314) is multiplied by the scale factor to set an operating time of timer T310 (314); and where the scale factor causes timer T310 (314) to take less time to expire when the current speed of the user equipment (110, 120, 300a, 300b) is less than a predetermined threshold.
