Abstract  Abstract

A method and apparatus for allocating ACKnowledgment/Negative ACKnowledgment (ACK/NACK) resources at a User Equipment (UE) in a wireless communication system the method comprising the steps of: determining whether a control channel is detected that indicates a transmission on a corresponding data channel for a corresponding time interval; selecting between a first ACK/NACK resource allocation scheme and a second ACK/NACK resource allocation scheme based on whether the control channel is received wherein the first ACK/NACK resource allocation scheme is different than the second ACK/NACK resource allocation scheme; and determining a resource for transmission of an ACK/NACK according to the selected one of the first ACK/NACK resource allocation scheme and the second ACK/NACK resource allocation scheme.
