Abstract  Abstract

A method and apparatus for supporting a random access using a random access channel (RACH) are disclosed. Each of a plurality of wireless transmit/receive units (WTRUs) sends a random access request to a base station on an uplink RACH preamble. Each of the WTRUs in a plurality of wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU) transmits a random access of requiring up to the base station on the uplink link RACH preamble. Sending by the base station of THE RACH response (access indication channel AICH message) is each of the WTRUs. Of receiving the RACH response signal comprises a control portion (Physical downlink control channel PDCCH) and data portion (Physical downlink shared channel PDSCH). The RACH response control signal of part indicates the position of RACH response message. RACH Response control signal comprises a plurality of control channel elements (CCE) of unique RACH wherein each WTRU distribution CCE of each to provide it of in response to the control signal. The WTRU is configured to locate its intended CCE from among the multiple CCEs sent by the base station. Blind decoding.

The control signal portion of the RACH Response indicates the location of the RACH Response message portion. The RACH Response control signal comprises multiple control channel elements (CCE) where each WTRU is allocated a respective CCE to provide its unique RACH Response control signal. The WTRU is configured to locate its intended CCE from among the multiple CCEs sent by the base station. Blind decoding.
