Abstract  Abstract

abstract spatial spreading in a multi-antenna communication system spatial spreading is performed in a multi-antenna system to randomize an effective channel observed by a receiving entity for each transmitted block of data symbols. for a mimo system, in a transmission entity, data is processed (eg, encoded, interleaved, and modulated) to obtain nd blocks of data symbols to be transmitted in nm transmission durations, where nd . 1 and nm > 1. The nd blocks are partitioned into nm sub-blocks of data symbols, one sub-block for each transmission duration. a targeting matrix is selected (for example, in a deterministic or pseudo-random way, from a set of l targeting matrices, where l > 1) for each sub-block. each sub-block of data symbols is spatially processed with the selected steering matrix for that sub-block to obtain transmission symbols, which are further processed and transmitted through nt transmit antennas in one transmission duration. the nd blocks of data symbols are therefore spatially processed with nm steering matrices and observe a cluster or set of channels.
