Abstract
Systems and methods are disclosed for a WTRU to operate using multiple schedulers. The WTRU may exchange data with the network over more than one data path such that each data path may use a radio interface connected to a different network node and each node may be associated with an independent scheduler. For example a WTRU may establish a RRC connection between the WTRU and a network. The RRC connection may establish a first radio interface between the WTRU and a first serving site of the network and a second radio interface between the WTRU and a second serving site of the network. The RRC connection may be established between the WTRU and the MeNB and a control function may be established between the WTRU and the SCeNB. The WTRU may receive data from the network over the first radio interface or the second radio interface.

Claim
A method for a wireless transmit receive unit (WTRU), the method comprising:
the WTRU establishing a radio resource control (RRC) connection, wherein the RRC connection is common between at least a first medium access control (MAC) instance associated with a first serving site and a second MAC instance associated with a second serving site, and the RRC connection utilizes a distributed control plane comprising a first RRC control entity at the first serving site and a second RRC control entity at a second serving site;
the WTRU receiving an RRC connection reconfiguration message, wherein the RRC connection reconfiguration message comprises a configuration for the WTRU to add or modify a data radio bearer (DRB) that is split between the first and second MAC instances;
the WTRU receiving first data associated with the DRB from the first serving site via the first MAC instance; and
the WTRU receiving second data associated with the DRB from the second serving site via the second MAC instance.
2. The method as in claim 1, wherein the DRB is split below a packet data convergence protocol (PDCP) layer.
3. The method as in claim 1, wherein the first RRC entity at the first serving site corresponds to primary RRC entity at a macro cell.
4. The method as in claim 3, wherein the second RRC entity at the second serving site corresponds to supplemental RRC entity at a small cell.
5. The method as in claim 1, wherein the first RRC entity supports at least one control plane function that is not supported by the second RRC entity.
6. The method as in claim 1, wherein a single RRC entity at the WTRU is configured to coordinate with each of the first and second RRC entities.
7. The method as in claim 1, wherein the first serving site corresponds to a first type of radio access node associated with a first cell type and the second serving site corresponds to a second type of radio access node associated with a second cell type.
8. A wireless transmit receive unit (WTRU) comprising:
a transceiver, and a processor configured to:
establish a radio resource control (RRC) connection, wherein the RRC connection is common between at least a first medium access control (MAC) instance associated with a first serving site and a second MAC instance associated with a second serving site, and the RRC connection utilizes a distributed control plane comprising a first RRC control entity at the first serving site and a second RRC control entity at a second serving site;
receive, via the transceiver, an RRC connection reconfiguration message, wherein the RRC connection reconfiguration message comprises a configuration for the WTRU to add or modify a data radio bearer (DRB) that is split between the first and second MAC instances;
receive, via the transceiver, first data associated with the DRB from the first serving site via the first MAC instance; and
receive, via the transceiver, second data associated with the DRB from the second serving site via the second MAC instance.
9. The WTRU as in claim 8, wherein the DRB is split below a packet data convergence protocol (PDCP) layer.
10. The WTRU as in claim 8, wherein the first RRC entity at the first serving site corresponds to primary RRC entity at a macro cell.
11. The WTRU as in claim 9, wherein the second RRC entity at the second serving site corresponds to supplemental RRC entity at a small cell.
12. The WTRU as in claim 8, wherein the first RRC entity supports at least one control plane function that is not supported by the second RRC entity.
13. The WTRU as in claim 8, wherein a single RRC entity at the WTRU is configured to coordinate with each of the first and second RRC entities.
14. The WTRU as in claim 8, wherein the first serving site corresponds to a first type of radio access node associated with a first cell type and the second serving site corresponds to a second type of radio access node associated with a second cell type.
15. A network node comprising:
a transceiver, and
a processor configured to:
establish a radio resource control (RRC) connection with a wireless transmit receive unit (WTRU), wherein the network node corresponds to a first serving site for the WTRU, the RRC connection is common between at least a first medium access control (MAC) instance of the WTRU associated with the first serving site and a second MAC instance of the WTRU associated with a second serving site, and the RRC connection utilizes a distributed control plane comprising a first RRC control entity at the network node and a second RRC control entity at a second serving site;
send, via the transceiver, an RRC connection reconfiguration message to the WTRU, wherein the RRC connection reconfiguration message comprises a configuration for the WTRU to add or modify a data radio bearer (DRB) that is split between the first and second MAC instances;
send, via the transceiver, first data associated with the DRB to the WTRU, the first data being associated with the first MAC instance; and
send, via the transceiver, second data to the second serving site for delivery to the WTRU, the second data being associated with the DRB and with the second MAC instance.
16. The network node as in claim 15, wherein the DRB is split below a packet data convergence protocol (PDCP) layer.
17. The network node as in claim 15, wherein the first RRC entity at the network node corresponds to primary RRC entity at a macro cell.
18. The network node as in claim 15, wherein the first RRC entity supports at least one control plane function that is not supported by the second RRC entity.
19. The network node as in claim 15, wherein the first RRC entity is configured to control one or more mobility aspects of the WTRU.
20. The network node as in claim 15, wherein the network node corresponds to a first type of radio access node associated with a first cell type and the second serving site corresponds to a second type of radio access node associated with a second cell type.
