Abstract
A base station may sense, on a cell using unlicensed spectrum, that the unlicensed spectrum is available for transmission. The base station may transmit, after sensing that the unlicensed spectrum is available, consecutive subframes. Each subframe may include a physical downlink control channel and a physical downlink shared channel.

1. A base station comprising:
a transceiver and a processor configured to communicate, using a first cell on licensed spectrum, with a wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU); the processor is configured to sense, on a second cell using unlicensed spectrum, that the unlicensed spectrum is available for transmission; and the transceiver and the processor are further configured to transmit, after sensing that the unlicensed spectrum is available, a plurality of consecutive subframes, wherein each of the subframes includes a physical downlink control channel and a physical downlink shared channel.
2. The base station of claim 1, wherein the transceiver and the processor are configured to transmit a primary synchronization signal (PSS) and a secondary synchronization signal (SSS) in the second cell without broadcast system information in the second cell.
3. The base station of claim 1, wherein the transceiver and the processor are configured to begin transmission in the second cell at a time not aligned with a subframe boundary of the first cell.
4. The base station of claim 1, wherein the transceiver and the processor are configured to sense that the unlicensed spectrum is available for a duration longer than a short interframe spacing (SIFS).
5. The base station of claim 1, wherein the transceiver and the processor are configured to transmit to at least one WTRU an indication of a window for the at least one WTRU to receive a signal from the base station in the second cell to perform measurements.
6. The base station of claim 5, wherein the signal includes a primary synchronization signal (PSS) and a secondary synchronization signal (SSS).
7. The base station of claim 1, wherein the transceiver and the processor transmit system information of the first cell without system information of the second cell.
8. A method performed by a base station, the method comprising:
communicating, by the base station using a first cell on licensed spectrum, with a wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU); sensing, by the base station on a second cell using unlicensed spectrum, that the unlicensed spectrum is available for transmission; and transmitting, by the base station after sensing that the unlicensed spectrum is available, a plurality of consecutive subframes, wherein each of the subframes includes a physical downlink control channel and a physical downlink shared channel.
9. The method of claim 8 further comprising transmitting, by the base station, a primary synchronization signal (PSS) and a secondary synchronization signal (SSS) in the second cell without broadcast system information in the second cell.
10. The method of claim 8 further comprising transmitting, by the base station, in the second cell at a time not aligned with a subframe boundary of the first cell.
11. The method of claim 8 further comprising sensing, by the base station, that the unlicensed spectrum is available for a duration longer than a short interframe spacing (SIFS).
12. The method of claim 8, wherein further comprising transmitting, by the base station, to at least one WTRU an indication of a window for the at least one WTRU to receive a signal from the base station in the second cell to perform measurements.
13. The method of claim 12, wherein the signal includes a primary synchronization signal (PSS) and a secondary synchronization signal (SSS).
14. The method of claim 8, wherein the base station transmits system information of the first cell without system information of the second cell.
15. A wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU) comprising:
a receiver and a processor configured to receive, on a cell using licensed spectrum, a radio resource control (RRC) message that includes an indication of time periods to monitor for at least one reference signal, wherein the at least one reference signal is associated with a long term evolution (LTE) system in a cell using unlicensed spectrum; and the processor is configured to measure, on a condition that the at least one reference signal was transmitted, the unlicensed spectrum using the at least one reference signal during the indicated time; wherein the at least one reference signal is transmitted based on carrier sense of the unlicensed spectrum by an LTE base station.
16. The WTRU of claim 15, wherein based on a transmitted measurement report, the receiver and the processor are configured to receive scheduling information for the WTRU to receive a LTE signal over the cell using the unlicensed spectrum and to receive the LTE signal over the cell using the unlicensed spectrum.
17. The WTRU of claim 16, wherein the receiver and the processor are further configured to receive a retransmission of the LTE signal using adaptive HARQ.
18. The WTRU of claim 17, wherein a HARQ process used for the retransmitted LTE signal for the unlicensed spectrum is different than HARQ processes used for the licensed spectrum.
19. The WTRU of claim 15 further comprising a transmitter and the processor are configured to transmit, on a condition that a measurement of the unlicensed spectrum was performed, a measurement report including a result of the measurement of the unlicensed spectrum.
