Abstract  Abstract

1. A communication method comprising the steps of: receiving a packet; determining a service level associated with the packet, the determination of the level of service comprising determining whether the packet is associated with a local service or a network service, wherein the first Internet Protocol address is associated with a local service and a second Internet Protocol address is associated with a network service; and determine whether to send a packet through a protocol tunnel based on a specific level of service. 2. The method of claim 1, wherein the service level indicates whether packets should be tunneled. The method of claim 1, wherein the service level indicates whether packets should be tunneled through a protocol tunnel that terminates in at least one of the group consisting of the following: a guest network and a border gateway. The method of claim 1, wherein the service level indicates whether or not packets should be tunneled through a protocol tunnel that terminates in at least one of the group consisting of the following: own network and core network gateway. The method of claim 1, wherein the level of service is also associated with the name of the access point. The method of claim 1, wherein: the packet is received at an access point that communicates via a radio interface with an access terminal that sends the packet; a local service comprises a service provided through an access point; the network service comprises a service provided through a protocol tunnel to a first hop router for an access terminal. The method of claim 6, wherein: the access point is associated with an Internet Protocol subnet; Local service
