Abstract  Abstract

1. A method of completing the transmission of an enhanced dedicated channel (E-DCH) in a direct cell access channel (CELL_FACH) state by a wireless transmit / receive device (WTRU), the method comprising the steps of: determining by the WTRU that the buffer is empty; provided that that the buffer is empty, the scheduling (SI) information is transmitted via the WTRU in an E-DCH transmission with a zero total enhanced dedicated channel (E-DCH) buffer state (TEBS); and provided that the buffer is empty, the allocation of E-DCH resources is freed by the WTRU. 2. The method of claim 1, wherein the inactivity timer is started when the buffer is empty. The method of claim 2, wherein the SI transmission is initiated when the inactivity timer expires. The method of claim 1, wherein the E-DCH transmission occurs provided that a response to the preamble transmitted by the WTRU is received on the E-DCH receipt channel (E-AICH). The method of claim 1, further comprising the step of stopping E-DCH transmission in the event of cell reselection or radio link failure. A wireless transmit / receive device (WTRU) for stopping an enhanced dedicated channel (E-DCH) in a direct cell access channel state (CELL_FACH), comprising: a receiver; a transmitter and a processor capable of communicating with a receiver and a transmitter, the processor being configured to determine that the buffer empty; provided that the buffer is empty, initiating the transmission of scheduling information (SI) in an E-DCH transmission with zero total buffer status of the enhanced dedicated channel (E-DCH) (TEBS); and provided that the buffer is empty, release the destination of the E-DCH resources. 7. The wireless transmit / receive device (WTRU) according to claim 6, wherein the processor starts the idle timer when the buffer is empty
