Abstract  Abstract

1. A method of transmitting data from a transmitting entity to a receiving entity in a wireless communication system with multiple inputs and multiple outputs (MIMO), comprising the steps of! processing data to obtain a plurality of data symbol streams for transmission over a plurality of transmission channels in a MIMO channel between the transmitting entity and the receiving entity; ! generating a set of L steering matrices, wherein L is an integer greater than one; ! perform spatial spreading coding for a plurality of data symbol streams using L control matrices to obtain a plurality of spreading encoded symbol streams, wherein spatial spreading coding using a plurality of control matrices randomizes a plurality of transmission channels for a plurality of data symbol streams; and! performing spatial processing for a plurality of streams of symbols encoded to expand the spectrum of symbols to obtain a plurality of streams of transmit symbols for transmission from a plurality of transmit antennas in a transmitting entity. ! 2. The method of claim 1, wherein the L control matrices comprise unitary matrices having orthogonal columns. ! 3. The method according to claim 1 further comprising the step of! choose a control matrix from L control matrices for each time interval, and! wherein spatial spreading coding is performed for each time interval using a control matrix selected for the time interval. ! 4. The method according to claim 1, additionally containing a stage in which! select a control matrix from L control matrices for each group of at least one h
