Abstract
A method and system for partitioning data in a wireless communication network is disclosed. Data can be partitioned to use multiple base stations for transmission to user equipment and can improve bandwidth when the UE is at the cell edge, or can be partitioned by user equipment for transmission to multiple base stations to improve handover have. Data partitioning may be performed at the packet data convergence protocol layer of the user equipment or base station, at the radio link control layer, or at the media access control layer. The data can instead be split at network nodes such as serving gateways to reduce the X2 interface load or delay carrier aggregation.
